In Sony Pictures Animation's first feature film, the animated action adventure comedy Open Season, the odd are about to get even. Boog (Martin Lawrence), a domesticated grizzly bear with no survival skills, has his perfect world turned upside down when he meets Elliot (Ashton Kutcher) a scrawny, fast-talking mule deer. When Elliot convinces Boog to leave his cushy home in a park ranger's garage to try a taste of the great outdoors, things quickly spiral out of control. Relocated to the forest with open season only three days away, Boog and Elliot must acclimate in a hurry. They must join forces to unite the woodland creatures and take the forest back!

Growing up can be a confusing journey fraught with difficult choices. Boog (Martin Lawrence) is a domesticated Grizzly Bear who leads a perfectly happy life inside of Park Ranger Beth's (Debra Messing) garage, but a chance meeting with an overly energetic mule deer named Elliot (Ashton Kutcher) quickly changes everything and lands Boog high in the forest a few days before the opening of hunting season. Devoid of even the most basic survival skills, Boog and Elliot stumble through the woods and find themselves at the mercy of every forest animal from skunks to chipmunks as well as an evil hunter named Shaw (Gary Sinise). After unintentionally inciting and endangering an entire forest full of clever animals, Boog and Elliot come to the realization that only by banding together do the forest animals stand a chance of outsmarting the hunters and ensuring their own survival. This first animated film from Sony Pictures Animation takes its inspiration from cartoonist Steve Moore (In the Bleachers) and features animals with human-like intelligence, a vibrant color palate, and skilled animation that makes everything from the wind blowing Boo's fur to the animals' wild trip down the falls simply breathtaking. While it doesn't quite live up to Over the Hedge, Open Season is an entertaining production that explores the difficult process of maturation, the universal need for acceptance, and the true value of friendship. Open Season 3 is the third in a series of films about Boog the grizzly bear, Elliot the mule deer, and their unlikely friendship. Their relationship having been tested by everything from the opening of hunting season to the pressures of impending marriage and crazy kidnapping capers, this third film finds Boog unhappy that Elliot and his other guy friends are so preoccupied with their wives and children that they have no time left to spend with him. Boog's response is to leave them behind and change places with a bear named Doug who stars in a traveling circus. Under the big top, Boog meets Ursula, a female dancing bear that helps Boog begin to understand why all his friends are so interested in their female counterparts, as well as a spitting llama named Alistar who teaches him an important lesson about the value of true friendship. Meanwhile, Doug is thoroughly enjoying his newfound position of power as king of the forest while making all of Boog's forest friends miserable. The question is, will Doug and Boog ever agree to switch back to their respective lives, and even if they do, can the efforts of Mr. Weenie and his domesticated pet friends possibly extricate Boog from the circus before it returns to Russia? The animation in this direct-to-video production is less convincing than in the previous two films and the theme of unlikely friendship is beginning to stretch rather thin, but Open Season 3 is still an entertaining film for kids ages 3 and older that offers a nice message about the value of friendship. --Tami Horiuchi

Set in the fictional city of Rutherford, Ohio, this gentle-hearted series stars John Lithgow as the High Commander of an investigative team sent to Earth on a mission to learn everything about humans and their so-called advanced cilvilization.

In the irreverent tradition of My Favorite Martian and Mork and Mindy, Bonnie and Terry Turner (That ‘70s Show) created 3rd Rock From the Sun. Launched in 1996 as a midseason replacement, the alien comedy ran for six seasons, garnering 31 Emmy nominations and eight wins, including three for John Lithgow and two for Kristen Johnston.

In the pilot ("Brains and Eggs"), four extra-terrestrials suddenly materialize in the college town of Rutherford, Ohio. Disguised as humans, they dub themselves the Solomons. They are Dick (Lithgow), Sally (Johnston), Tommy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), and Harry (French Stewart). On the surface, Dick is a physics professor and Tommy is his hormonally challenged 14-year-old son. In reality, Dick is the high commander, Tommy (who's actually the oldest) is the senior information officer, Sally (who's actually a man) is the lieutenant, and squinty-eyed Harry is the transmitter/receiver. The humans in their lives include Dick's colleague--and object of his affections--Mary (Jane Curtin, Kate and Allie), secretary Nina (Simbi Khali), and landlady Mrs. Dubcek (Elmarie Wendel). The first season also introduces Officer Don (Wayne Knight, Seinfeld), who will appear more often in future seasons.

There were 20 episodes in the first year. In each, the Solomons learn something new about the human condition. In the debut, it’s feelings. Dick finds them silly, until he realizes how essential they are--you can't be fully human without them. Then there's sportsmanship ("Green-Eyed Dick"), mortality ("Body & Soul & Dick"), and so on. Guest stars include Harry's dream girl, Martha Stewart ("Post-Nasal Dick"), The Gilmore Girls’ Lauren Graham ("Dick's First Birthday"), and Newsradio’s Phil Hartman ("Lonely Dick"). After the show’s demise, the cast would move on to other ventures, most notably Broadway hit Dirty Rotten Scoundrels for the versatile Lithgow and independent drama Mysterious Skin for the grown-up Gordon-Levitt. --Kathleen C. The series follows Obi-Wan Kenobi and his apprentice Anakin Skywalker and introduces us to some new characters such as Ahsoka Tano a girl Jedi knight as well as characters we already know.

The thrilling 3-D CGI animated series The Clone Wars serves as impressive proof that George Lucas's Star Wars universe could translate to a weekly television series that wouldn't lose the scope, imagination, or sense of adventure of the features. Like the 2008 feature film of the same name, the 22 episodes that compose the series' debut season (2008-2009) cover the action between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. The handsomely packaged four-disc set for season 1 includes a wealth of extras for those wishing to dig even deeper into the Clone Wars experience. Chief among the pleasant surprises is the widescreen aspect ratio for each episode, which gives greater depth and exposure to every single frame. Seven episodes are listed as Director's Cuts, which translates as an extra minute or two of action or dialogue--not earth-shattering, but they certainly enhance the enjoyment of each episode. Short featurettes, ranging between 5 and 7 minutes, accompany each episode and discuss production notes, character design, and other detail; these are expanded versions of the commentaries by supervising director Dave Filoni that were featured on StarWars.com, with additional contributions by series writer Henry Gilroy and sound designer David Acord, as well as new comments by Filoni. And there's a 64-page book of artwork from the series, including storyboards, concept design, and matte paintings, built into the body of the packaging itself. For the Easter Egg-inclined, a surprise awaits on each disc, including trailers for season 2 and animatics. --Paul Gaita
